Playing some 4E5 goodness...

Well, the enemy tanks can now shoot, and Blocky Man can shoot with the tank when driving it. Actually, the only thing remaining is to program tank vs tank combat. It seems like I'll finally get to design level 3 this weekend(yay!).

I've had a chance to try out some of the 4E5 games. My favorite so far is The Boomlands, which is a really great use of all the elements. I'll probably try out some of the others tomorrow.

Now it's the weekend, I've got a chance to try a few out myself. I'll give The Boomlands a go this weekend, as well as Mop of Destiny. It's good that you think some of them really use the elements well; I was fearing most would have two or three and just tack something on for the remaining ones.

This years elements were difficult, but it also has seemed to bring out some interesting designs. Last years elements were great, but rather easy to include. I regret not entering with my idea, Billy the Undead Pirate Ninja Robot.

I like the Boomlands as it mixes all four elements without feeling like it struggles to include any. Unfortunetly, I wasn't able to play Mop of Destiny. I keep getting a DirectX 9 error[sad]

When the game starts, the window starts to come up and then an error message appears, "Could not create Direct3DDevice9 object". I installed the latest DirectX9 drivers with the game.

My video card is an Intel GMA 950.

Try this:

Run regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Deadly Red Cube\Mop of Destiny.

Try setting FSAA to 1, FullscreenWidth to 640, and FullscreenHeight to 480. If the game starts up after that, then you can go into the options menu and crank the graphical settings up a bit.

If, for some reason, those values don't exist, you can create them as DWORD values.

Let me know if that works :)

I tried it, but it still doesn't work. I get the same error, "Could not create Direct3DDevice9".

Okay, I found the problem.

Problem is, I made an assumption that any card that can handle pixel shaders can handle vertex shaders as well. Your card does not, however.

I have a new build that will fall back to software vertex processing.

It's located at http://mopofdestiny.com/MopInstall.exe

Let me know if that works!

Ah, now it works. The thing with the shaders is one of the strange things about my video card. It's why I can run Half-life 2 but not lego star wars.

Very cool game, reminds me alot of Castlevania. I beat the first level, already, and will play more tonight.
