1337 NES pixel art

Blocky Man!

You know, just in case you missed it last time.

I predict that I can get the next level, "Robot City", done by early next week. I base this prediction on nothing but my own optimism. We'll see how it goes.

So, I realize that a matter of national, nay global, importance has come up that I must address. Yes, I have changed my avatar, but to what exactly?

Well, besides showing my 1337 NES pixel art skills, that character is also the hero of a side-project I've been working on. I didn't mention this side-project earlier because I didn't want to give the impression that I would be working any less on Blocky Man. In fact, even with a side project I'm still working at the same pace I ever was with Blocky Man[grin]

So what is this side project you didn't ask, but may have thought about asking? It is programmed in C# and XNA. The game is called "Legendary Hero of Legend"(It's supposed to be redundent), and is a clone of the original Legend of Zelda game. I started this project so I could practice learning XNA from the beta in preperation for when it really comes out soon.

I'll leave any more details for when I release a video of this project in the near future. That is assuming that FRAPS supports XNA, ofcourse.

Sounds good. I've got a Zelda-esque game on the list of games I'm strongly considering for next year too, tenatively entitled "The Adventures of Sir Hero" (although I'm debating about making it a side view platformer like Metroid instead of top down). I've always had a soft spot for games with ridiculous names (such as Deadly Rooms of Death).

How are you finding C# and XNA? I'm probably not going to switch from C++ until I feel there's a good enough reason, but I'd like to know what I'm missing out on.

C# is cool, XNA is cool, and so is the original Zelda. Excellent combination. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out! :)

XNA uses Direct3D, so FRAPS should support it out-of-the-box.

My impressions of XNA from the work I've done so far, very nice. Even though it is in Beta, it's seems very complete and well thought out.

Interestingly enough, the most incomplete thing I've found so far is the documentation. I had to do some googling to find out how to do color keying in XNA.

I figured as much. Once I get some of the essentials of the game done, such as the hero, maybe an enemy or two, and an NPC, I'll post a video.

I just played the pirate level last night, and I really enjoyed it, I'm eagerly awaiting the full release.

And the side project sounds interesting as well, the sprite's great, and the world can always use another Zelda-type game.

Thanks!

I'm actually going to be practicing my NES-style sprite skills so that the game ends up having similar graphics to the original Zelda.

First off, this game is great. It's "the bomb".
I've also wanted to learn XNA, but my graphics card can't support it, which REALLY sucks.

Thanks!

That does suck that you can't run XNA. Hopefully the real release will support more computer settings.

I wouldn't hold your breath! [grin] XNA uses DX9, which requires a DX9-compatible card. This is the main reason why I've been reluctant to jump on XNA thus far: people with older computers get shafted. [sad]

I'm glad that my computer can run it, as I don't consider my video card that advanced. Although, I'm probably underestimating the power of my computer.
