Don't know how well you can see on the image, but there are now these "present" blocks that have stars visibly spinning inside them. The blocks are solid but if you hit them from underneath, they bob up a bit and the stars fly out the top.
Nothing too original there, I know, but it looks really cool. It's set up so you can have any sort of pickup inside a present block, and release it by hitting the block from below.
This has meant, though, that stars can no longer be part of the map and have to be stored as free objects instead. That is not a major problem since only the player object has to test for collisions against most of the other free items (the present blocks are an exception to this but they are stored in a different list to everything else) so it shouldn't present any major problems.
It also means that the star collision detection is a lot more accurate so that's cool.
I decided to dump the constant rolling demo at the top of the journal since I want there to be some suprises when it is finished and released.
