Basketball court re-texture

A comment by an Anon Poster in my last entry mentioned that the court was too 'clean' looking, and he was right [grin]. I did a quick re-texture of it earlier today. The re-texture had to be done becuase the resolution of the old court was really bad...I doubled the texture size, and I'm much happier with the result. I'll post some screenshots later.

Also Jason Z had a question about what tool I use to assign tex-coords for the models...I do infact use Milkshape for that as well. I can see how MS3D would be difficult to use, and often I find myself wishing for certain features/bug fixes...but overall I think it's texture mapping tools are 'good enough'. I'm sure after some time with 3DMax I'd never look at MS3D again, but I gotta use the tools I have available, right :-D [New computer, or copy of 3D Max...hmmm tough decision [grin]].

Anyways, I guess you have to do a lot of thinking ahead in MS3D when you are creating your meshes, because once you de-assign the texture coords of a newly created primitive...the only way to re-assign them in the original fashion is to re-assign them face-by-face. Which can be annoying, and repetitive. I've been using MS3D for probably 6-7 years, so it's like second nature now. Creating buildings / structures is a lot different than creating people though. I still can't create people :-(

Here are the screenshots of the basketball court re-texture...it has a more 'urban/gangster' feel to it, verses the painted-concrete-country-club look [just look at the last entry for some screenshots].

I agree. Althoguh it looks OK, I would say that it has to much spray now. If you even it out a little(perhaps some trash or something on the ground by the stands?) then it'll look awesome!

Keep it up!

Yeah, way too much graffiti on the floor and oddly enough only in the court itself (?) and no real urban dirt (trash). I recommend looking at Half Life 2's art assets for ideas how it could look like as it features some great looking trash decals.

Thanks for the good feedback guys! I'm working on a lot of other stuff right now, but I'll have round-3 for the basketball court ready later today or tommorow.

My original version of the basketball court had probably 20% of the decals that this one has, so I moved back to that version. Also I've dirtied up the concrete surrounding the court.

I've also just made some more street side objects, like trash bags...that will add some to the scene. I just re-textured the pine / palm trees in the game with a lot higher poly/textures as well.

I really do need to add dynamic news papers/trash into the game, I thought about that the other day...while admiring the great trash/paper decals in HL2 :-D

Good feedback guys, I appreciate it.
