Hey everybody!
Play the Angels 22 Demo!!
Now that I'm not drugged up on Nyquil, I can make an actual entry regarding all the stuff we did for Angels 22 while the site was down.
Demo
Okay, here's all you guys need to know about the demo we just released.
Controls:
Up/Down Arrow- Speeds up and slows down.
Left/Right Arrow- Turns Plane
'Z' - Fires Gun
'X' - Fires Secondary weapon
"Shift" - Switches secondary weapon
Double Tap Left/Right - 180 Flip
Double Tap Up - Afterburner (hold)
Double Tap Down - Air Brake
Known Bugs:
-Some sounds are missing
-Can't return to weapon select from a mission
-Sometimes weapons select acts funny
Heron
These are pretty neat little VTOL transports that are used to insert/extract infantry and whatnot. All they really do is fly in, switch to hover mode, land for a given amount of time, and then take off again, but it looks pretty cool.
Rocket
If you guys remember Marks journal a long time ago had a picture of a giant space rocket hooked up to an equally large gantry. We finally got around to implementing it, and the result is pretty awesome, as evidenced in the relative size of the rocket compared to the fighter....
Craters
These are just little decals that pop up after you drop a bomb onto the terrain. They don't look too good yet, but we're still experimenting with them....
Space
In order for the rocket to lauch, we had to implement space, or at least the slow transition to it, so once the camera reaches a certain altitude, the sky starts to darken, and stars slowly appear as you gain altitude. We haven't put a maximum altitude to the fighter yet, so you can fly into space in the demo if you have the patience.
Auto-Land
Mark decided that landing on the carrier was too hard, so we decided to implement an auto-land feature that pops up when you are in close proximity to the carrier. All you really have to do now is fly over the carrier, and press space bar when prompted to, and the plane will set itself up to land all by itself.
Just two items I wanted to comment on: the first time I started, the arrow keys (and most other controls; could only use landing gear :P) were unresponsive. After a respawn everything worked just fine. That, and I really think that -- aesthetically -- in the weapon selection screen, 'Next' should be on the right, and 'Previous' on the left. No offense to the lefties. [smile]
Excellent work!
EDIT: Oh, and is the game supposed to eat up a whopping 75mb of RAM?
