Rules of Play

I've decided to get off my butt and do some formal reading around game design. I am a self confessed horrible game designer and I don't intend to ever be a rock star designer but I figured it would be nice to at least understand game design theory. I bought the book Rules of Play a while back for that intent but I've finally started reading it. Hopefully there are some jewels inside.

I've found that with a new baby in the house reading is actually one of the harder things to find time for. I've always been a read myself to sleep kind of person who reads in bed. Not having a very solid sleep schedule has pretty much killed that. I'm going to have to find a time where reading does work. Entertainment wise it's always been my favorite media format. It's so much better using my mind to visualize than some cheesy graphics card.

I'm always on the look out for good books, and I only have a few on game design. Given you mention it I had a quick read through the reviews over at Amazon and "Rules of Play" sounds pretty interesting. Once you get a fair ways into the book could you please give me your opinion on it, so I can consider whether it's worth adding to my collection (the hardcopy addition has academic pricing, i.e. expensive!)
