Getting excited

Amazon just emailed me to say my new book has been dispatched.

I'm actually getting quite excited now. I entirely agree with HopeDagger's comments in my last post and accept I am a low-down no-good dirty quitter but I'm feeling really quite motivated now I've chosen a new direction.

I wish the map editor was a bit more user friendly in a way so I could appeal for people to write some Udo levels, but I'm not sure anyone else would get on well with it.

Part of me hates to kill a project. It really does, but since I made the decision I feel like a weight's lifted off me so I think it was the right one.

I'll tidy Udo up and release it with the single level so it is at least in the Showcase for posterity.

My intent was to motivate you to finish Udo, not to make you see yourself in such a light -- I'd wish that on nobody. I really hope you don't think I was taking shots at you in my previous comments.

Oh no, not at all. Please don't worry. I was calling myself a low-down no-good dirty quitter and I at no point felt that you were.

I fully understood the motivation behind your comments and really appreciate your efforts. I was kind of just joking above, but I guess my sense of humour doesn't always translate well in journal posts.

That's the problem! Like I said above, it wasn't my intent to make you think of yourself in such a way. You're definitely a skilled developer, and I didn't intend to aim you in the other direction. [smile]

I don't like the sound of them last posts, but alas the ball is in your court (as if it ever even was in ours :-)). Please consider releasing Udo along with its source, or at the very minimum its editor. You never know what might happen when skilled people understand its potential.

I'd be more than happy to release the source and the editor, if anyone wants to have a look. I'll try to get round to writing up some proper documentation for using the editor and generating the various little files the game requires.

Really, I think I got a bit too ambitious with my plans for this game and stopped being realistic. I appreciate everyone's motivation is to try to get the game finished and regret my joke about being a no-good quitter now since I appear to have implied I was either offended or upset by the comments I recieved. I would stress I was neither and was grateful to see that people were encouraging me.

I'll write a full explanation of how to create the levels and how to create the config files, then stick a zip up in my journal with all the tools included that I use to create content.
