The IMHX previously mentioned was a great success, although a very long four days on my feet. The product I promote appears to have arrived well within its industry.

However, looks like my company may be, er, restructuring. I was kind of thinking about moving on after the IMHX anyway but looks like I might now need to sooner rather than later.

So today I got my CV updated and have fired out three applications. I'm on holiday all this week so I really need to use this week to best advantage. I even just went and spent about GBP45 on a printer and accessories. They really know how to charge you for these things, eh? Got a Lexmark. Seems okay.

I decided quite a few years ago that I've left it too late to pursue software as a career. I don't know about the rest of the world (or even the rest of the UK) but there is not a lot of work for programmers where I live and I don't want to relocate. I also think that it is damn hard to get in anywhere without a qualification. All the opportunities I've ever seen in this country want a degree as a bare minimum, which I can't afford to go and pursue in my early thirties.

So probably just keep doing sales, since that is the only other thing I'm any good at. Bit of a stressful way to earn a living in some ways, but when it goes well, it is a great laugh and it's the best way to earn money around my way.

So no real time to devote to programming at the moment unfortunately. Unless any of you want to offer me a job, in which case I could get back to my Direct3D experiments. Think the odds are slim though.

Damn, I miss posting about my projects. Thanks for reading this drivel.

And I miss reading about them. It's sad to hear that you don't plan on professionally pursuing game developer or programming, but as long as you have no intention of dropping it as a hobby, then nothing is really lost. Even if I never get into commercial game development, I'll still be more than happy to keep it as a (huge) hobby. [smile]

Some nice responses. Thanks guys.

Can't see me ever giving up programming as a hobby. Probably couldn't if I wanted to. Guess I maybe need a little break or something. I'll do my best to stay active on the forums in the meantime.
