I'm Back!

I have been just utterly bored with my job and I have been thinking about what I really want to do. I want to be a game developer ... period.

I looked at all of my previous journal entries and the way I have changed my mind, started, and stopped so many times, it is almost embarrasing. I am older and wiser now and I know what I want (just not positive on where to begin).

Speaking of where to begin:

I read all of the forum posts about which language to start learning in. A lot of people say to start with C++ because that is the norm for game programming. Other people suggest an easier program such as C#, Python, or Java, etc. I have taken two semesters of Visual Basic, two semesters of Java, and one semester of C. I have also read two books on C++.

I think I finally decided to do the C# workshop since it is still in the beginning and it is only running for about three months. In the meantime, I am reading this book: 3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development.

Anyway, I hope I am heading in the right direction and I am looking to this community to keep me on track.

I have been lying to myself for a while about being serious about game development for some time as well. I think its because its a very hard road to take.

I started with c++ because...xna didn't exist and all the other technologies and libraries were fairly young, and I felt c++ was what pro's use so why not.

I don't see anything wrong with xna because its very easy to just get something on the screen without all the low level crap, but later on you may outgrow it and go with a real compiled language anyways, but for the time being while learning, xna is great.

I never really got deep into the blitzmax and blitz3d language/tools, but I got a moving bitmap on the screen within 10 lines of code. Its by far the easiest dev tool I have ever seen. Just something else to think about :D
