Despite it's downcast name, "Gloom" is actually pretty motivational stuff. ;)

I had promised to talk about me and Dean's latest project, "Gloom". The title is totally temporary, but it'll do the job for the time being. "Project X" just doesn't have the same ring to it anymore.

Project "Gloom"

"Gloom" follows the cyberpunk genre, fitting in as an overhead action/RPG game inspired by titles such as the famous Deus Ex, Ravuya's sinister Glow, and the sort of grim world that Skirmish Online might have taken place in. Occurring in a dark futuristic world, corporations, gangs and other consolidated organizations rule atop the governments.

Cool to see things still progressing hopedagger.

Also, I saw that Membrane Massacre had a review slot in this month's Game Tunnel panel. Congrats! Just getting a game on their review list is no easy task (especially considering it freeware). Derek's score was a little rough, but overall, I would be really proud!

Looks like a really cool start. Good to see things moving along! [grin]

Btw, who's Dean and what does he do on the project?

Thanks for the comment shadowcomplex -- haven't heard from you in ages. You need to update your journal more often. [smile]

I am honoured that GT actually accepted my review request. MM is pretty small-time, so making their list (a freeware midget amongst commercial-indie giants) means a lot to me.

Looks almost like Meteor with all that clickin' going on.

Although I neglected to say so in my entry, Meteor is also a (background) motivator in the feel I'm aiming for, although not so much the same pure action genre.

Thanks Lachlan! Congrats on finishing the sprite software you were working on, BTW. I totally neglected dropping in a comment for you. [sad]

Dean is also known as Draffurd. He's the mastermind friend-o'-mine that composed most of the art in our games (Meteorites, MM, Admiral, Gundown, Magma), all of the music, and designed the levels in Admiral Overalls. He's pretty busy nowadays with university and his music studies, but we're making what may be our last big game together.
