Here is an image of the first "new" gun model. I'm aware of the trademark issues, I'll edit this one, and it shouldn't be a problem for future guns.

I think my artist did a sick job on it.

The specs:
< 1500 triangles
1024^2 color,normal,specular maps

Check it out, there are 29 more coming -

Also I made these.

Looks good to me - but is there anywhere in the game that you'll actually see that much detail on a gun?!

Are you having normal "pop-pop" sound effects, or meaty "bang-bang" ones? I forget names, but I've played a couple where the sound effects have been very well done to the point I'm ducking under my desk when players shoot at me!

I suppose it depends what sort of atmosphere you want, but it strikes me as an easy way of really enhancing the perceived threat.

Keep up the good work!

Oh yea, you'll see these details if you play the game @ 1680x1050, I doubt I have the highest quality gun models ever created for a 3rd person game [grin]

You can always remove detail from art assets [reduce polycount, shrink textures] you can't add detail later on...so that's why I'm highballin' it. Lessons learned from my first time around asset production.

Also I agree with you about the sound effects, I want it to be as real as possible, I've got a 5.1 speaker setup and a 2.1 that are pretty high end, so I'll be able to test it all out. I'm also using the FMOD sound library, they have some awesome stuff [real time echo based on geometry, etc] which will be ideal for my game.

Man, that is a tight pistol. Kudos to the artist on that one.

Definitely agree on starting hi-res and reducing as opposed to the other way around! I play at 1600x1200 these days and after thinking about it I realised it's not that it's noticeable detail it's more than it's noticeable when it's low detail. If that makes any sense [lol]

Have you ever seen the bank robbery scene in 'Heat' - that's a good example of gunfire sound effects that simply sound painful [oh]

Is looking great, but why are this model looking like low poly? are this LOD models? I hope so... the renders of the models in the lasts journal were pretty amazing.

w00t!! P22! Yea baby, I love that gun. I'm trying to get my hands on a P99 right now but it's rough here in NJ - stupid guns laws. My P22 keeps me happy tho.

Errrr which models? The gangster models? It's the same 4000 triangle model that was in the other renders.
