We'll frag 'em to zog!

I've been designing the first level, now that all the little gameplay bits are coded. The first level is shaping up too be very fun, and also very difficult. Make no mistake, the game isn't going to be easy, as I don't believe that scrolling shumps should. However, it isn't going to be insanely difficult...like it won't be Gradius difficult or anything.

I made a video with FRAPS of the game in action, but I can't seem to figure out how to compress it. If anybody could point me to some good video compression software, it would be much appreciated.

I think I mentioned it before, but I've recently been really getting into Warhammer 40k tabletop. I've liked Warhammer for years, but this summer I started collecting my first 40k army. Playing Dawn of War was really what got me back into it.

I'm currently building a Space Ork army, aiming for 1000 points of units. Orks aren't exactly an army for beginners, both tactically and cost wise, but they are my favorite army in Warhammer 40k. So far I have ~350 points of units.

It is expensive to collect an army, with some armies being more expensive than others. Orks, unfortunetly, are one of the most expensive armies to collect. Grots, which are essentially the meat shields of an Ork army, cost $10 for only 4 models, where at least 20 are needed to create an effective unit.

Anyway, I'll post some pictures of my army once it's complete. One of the great things about Warhammer 40k is how much customization there is when building an army, both in modeling and how they are painted.

So, is there any other 40k players here? I don't imagine that I'm the only Gamedev member who has an army[grin]

I was never a big fan of collecting 40k so I collected the fantasy warhammer armies. Started with the skaven(that bell, oh the memories) and lizzard men, my brother collected bretonnia(the green knight, etc) and high elfs. If I was to collect 40k i'd go with eldar cause they look awsome :p

mmm, apperntaly armogedan is out in septmember which will mean new rules for 4k up to 20k point armies !? they are releasing massive tanks with 20 guns etc. mm mabey I will start collecting it 0o

I play. Used to play Chaos Marines, then Dark Eldar. Then took a break for a few years, and now I'm starting up an Eldar army. It is crazy expensive, though.

I like Warhammer Fantasy too, but since I can only afford to collect for one game, I chose 40k. I've played a few games with the Empire, though.

Yeah, the new 40k version will have massive battles, but I won't be able to collect that many. It would be great to play that with Orks, though.

It is very expensive, but I just want to get 1000 points, and then I don't have to buy much more. I'm first going to collect an Ork army, and then I might collect an Imperial Guard army much later.

Hmm not quite sure what format your video is in... I guess RAW. You could probably use VirtualDubMod it is free (slightly old tho)... go search on google :P. If that doesn't work let me know, I have some other ideas!~

EDIT: You'll need some codec to compress it. Not sure what the program comes with but you could always download the DivX or Xvid codecs.

I know this is old but I have to post...

I have just too many armies:

First army was space marines, have approx 7000pts (in various chapters)
Second army was tyranid, only maybe 2000pts
Third army was orks, must have around 7000pts too, have 15 bikes, about 20 other vehicles, 100s of regulars, loads of boys with missile launchers, conversion beamers, auto-cannons etc, lots of elites :)
Fourth army was eldar although they never got off the ground so maybe 500pts
Fifth army was Chaos and probably looking at around 3000pts

Think that's probably about 20k with some random others I've got... man I used to collect them so much maybe 10 years ago. Still have it all stashed away too.

My friends were quite in to it too although are games were stressful because we all exploited the unbalanced rules heavily.

Oh yeah and a smattering of Imperial Guard.

about the compression--

if you have Windows (maybe just win XP ?)
go to

start menu->accessories-> entertainment
and open up windows movie maker. I use it all the time for my fraps videos. It's super super crazy easy to use, and offers a variety of compression options.

have you ever thought about using google video to host your files? It works well, and you could probably insert the video frame into your journal.
