Always wanted to say that in some of the game forums I troll, well at least I could do it here :)

I've been developing software now for over 20 years and have always had an interest in gaming (playing and programming). In fact my first "game" programming was with a Bally Home Arcade system with a BASIC cartridge installed ;) Most of my recent development has been with medical devices, networking, multi-user functionality, and databases. Interesting and pays the bills but not much fun in my career.

I was introduced to MMORPGs by playing SWG since beta (2003) and saw the great possibilities in the entertainment industry for such games. Tried a few others since; DAOC, Guild Wars, LOTRO. I love playing them but am more and more interested in taking a shot at progrmmaing one.

I've read a few books on the subject and finally decided to knuckle down and try my hand at some programming. I'm no artist and my graphics programming is non-existant and realize the daunting task that lies ahead and I'm hoping I can see something to completion.

Going to start with a rudimentatry engine and see what happens from there.

Woah

Well, let me be the first one to say: good luck!

Sorry, don't mean to be a wet blanket. I'm sure it's quite possible to do. Those things are just a lot of work is all.

All the best & welcome to journal-land! [smile]
