I don't know if you guys have heard about this or not, but nVidia is gobbling up Ageia:

Press Release

In my opinion, this is a good thing since I have been integrating PhysX into my engine and there was some doubt about how long Ageia could hang in there if their physics cards weren't selling very good. Hopefully this means that the PhysX API is going to be around for a good long while!

Yah, hopefully this will mean an industry-wide push to include PPU's on video cards. I always thought that keeping the GPU and PPU separate would mean that you could never rely on hardware for physics being available. If this takes place, we should (hopefully, assuming ATI jumps on the wagon) see some new standards being established. I also noticed that in the XNA "tell us what you want next" survey, physics integration seemed to be a bit of a focus there too.
