I love the effect of dropping and raising tiles in the game world like that to simulate the player's view range. Very cool.

The tile effect will be part of the gameplay too (I hope). Some tiles will be slower than others to move, some will be static (at various "depth"), and the player will be able to pick up items to move tiles in a bigger or smaller range.
