Alright, so I install it, and start a new campaign (I salvaged my old save files, but wanted to make sure I could still play RTS). About 20 seconds into the very first mission, after 5 minutes of gratuitous cutscene, POOF!
B.S.O.D.
So I spent a good part of the day perusing forums and downloading patches and drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and the game itself and changing settings and, and... I realized why people play console games. Also, EA sucks. So does Nvidia. I played this game last year, with old drivers and versions!
I kind of give up. One more try, and if it kills Windows again tonight (there's still some settings to try) well, fuck it, I'm going to install Panzer General 2.
Or I might go on an epic quest to find the CD keys for Rise of Nations, but really, that only reminds me of how much for fun it is to, you know, play a freaking game without hours of preparation. Hell, I might just play Halo until my fingers fall off. At least when I put the disk in I can actually be having fun within mere minutes.
But I'm open to any last minute suggestions- I have a Dell XPS 1710 with a Nvidia GeForce Go 7900GS. Any good places to find older driver versions, for example?
