Aardvajk joins the YouTube revolution

I've pretty much given up on trying to access my GD+ webspace until it gets fixed. It's taking hours to log into the Manage Webspace page.

So, in the meantime, in response to rip-off's request for a video, I've joined the YouTube revolution (late as usual).

">Here is a short video of the current game.

I've had to use Fraps as CamStudio seems to have stopped working properly and always produced pretty crappy quality anyway, so 30 seconds only.

I was amazed at how quickly I could upload a 7 meg WMV to YouTube so expect to see this used far more in my journal in the future. I might even cave in and buy the upgraded Fraps so I can get rid of the 30 second restriction.

-----------------------------------

Sod it - just paid $37 to register Fraps (about GBP22).

">Here is a much better video for your comments and opinions.

-----------------------------------

PS: I'm sincerely honoured - Erin Catto likes my game. [grin]

The game is looking awesome. :) I loved it when Squishy punched the button to open the door. Are you still adding more features or are you gonna start making more levels?

Thank you. That button is in as an example of using the built-in scripting system to require three hits on a button to open a door.

Still planning to add a lot of features, but I want to get the overall structure finished first - e.g. a world map to select levels from, some kind of victory and game over sequences and maybe some kind of cut-scene system to add a story. Once they are in place, I want to add a whole range of different objects and enemies etc but will probably do that as I go along creating levels.

Thanks for the comments.

That was mainly a joke, considering how long it would take to upload a video to your GD.net webspace.

Very nice, looks very smooth. I like the twirly flower thing on your logo too.

The only thing is I would probably add some kind of visual indicator for the buzz saw that floats in mid air, like a line showing its extents. It looks a bit odd just floating there.

I know you were joking but it gave me a kick up the ass to get some videos posted so cheers.

Thanks. I'm pretty impressed with the video quality given that I was only running Fraps at 30 FPS.

Sure, I agree. I actually only envisage putting the buzzsaws half-way into the map like the other two - the one floating in midair was just to confirm that I could get them to move along an arbitrary axis okay.

Thanks for the comments. [smile]

Wow! That looks fantastic! It's really coming together - it's nice watching you play it (instead of me fumbling through some of the earlier demos)... made it look like a lot of fun :) I like the buzzsaws :)

A tip for youtube videos:

If you want, if you run your game at 1280x720 and then use something like virtual dub to xvid compress it, when you upload it, it'll upload as HD quality, instead of just "high quality" :) Then when you link to your videos, if you add the &fmt=22 to the end of it, it'll show in the big window at really good resolution :)

It does take some practice. The learning curve is my biggest concern, but I plan to have some tutorial levels to ease people in.

Cheers for that. I'll have to give that a try.

[EDIT] Yes, works well.
