The GameDev.net FreeBook is relevant to game designers, developers, and those interested in learning more about the challenges in game development. We know game development can be a tough discipline and business, so we picked several chapters from CRC Press titles that we thought would be of interest to you, the GameDev.net audience, in your journey to design, develop, and market your next game. The free ebook is available through CRC Press by clicking here. The Curated Books The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses, Second Edition, by Jesse Schell Presents 100+ sets of questions, or different lenses, for viewing a game’s design, encompassing diverse fields such as psychology, architecture, music, film, software engineering, theme park design, mathematics, anthropology, and more. Written by one of the world's top game designers, this book describes the deepest and most fundamental principles of game design, demonstrating how tactics used in board, card, and athletic games also work in video games. It provides practical instruction on creating world-class games that will be played again and again. View it here. A Practical Guide to Indie Game Marketing, by Joel Dreskin Marketing is an essential but too frequently overlooked or minimized component of the release plan for indie games. A Practical Guide to Indie Game Marketing provides you with the tools needed to build visibility and sell your indie games. With special focus on those developers with small budgets and limited staff and resources, this book is packed with tangible recommendations and techniques that you can put to use immediately. As a seasoned professional of the indie game arena, author Joel Dreskin gives you insight into practical, real-world experiences of marketing numerous successful games and also provides stories of the failures. View it here. An Architectural Approach to Level Design This is one of the first books to integrate architectural and spatial design theory with the field of level design. The book presents architectural techniques and theories for level designers to use in their own work. It connects architecture and level design in different ways that address the practical elements of how designers construct space and the experiential elements of how and why humans interact with this space. Throughout the text, readers learn skills for spatial layout, evoking emotion through gamespaces, and creating better levels through architectural theory. View it here. The Kickstarter for Archer Alec is now Live

Well I've been hard at work preparing this.
I go over where the money is going on the page and in the video but ill summarize it here for you!

-Code
-Art
-Paying for all the Music
-Website Hosting

The goal is 5,000 I think we can make it happen.
Currently every backer gets a special version of the game that enables Archer Alec to wear a Gold tunic instead of a Green one.
But I will be taking suggestions as to what else to add to this special version of the game.
(This may not be how he looks I made change the hue/colorization a tad)

Other than kickstarter I've been working on adding a wall item where the player can place a wall block and its affected by gravity.
I think it will be a good addition to the current game, feed back on this would be great.

Also Philip has finished the swamp level music and it sounds pretty good!

Great stuff, I love the catapult. I saw that and was like OH DAMN! I would have put a bit more production quality into it, but otherwise... great job man.

Thanks, I'm not the best video maker but eh :/

But that won't stop me I'm going to keep working at it and get a playable version ready to give out to some youtubers.

Thanks! I'm actually redoing the video sometime within the next day to show more of the game but in more exciting bits.

For me the Video was the most difficult aspect of making the kickstarter page.

What video ?

Ok, I can't see either video nor any other image with firefox (V 10.0), but it works with IE. You should check your page with firefox, chrome, opera etc., I know other kickstarter projects where parts of videos/images are not showing up for me. If it does not work for me, most likely others will have similar problems.

I can't see the video on kickstarter either.. but the visuals are attractive, they remind me of old games I used to play. One thing that's jarring on your screenshot above is the dirt/grass separation on slopes.. but that's a detail.

@Ashaman73

That's odd, so you can't see any pictures at all?

@Bacterius

It's because I'm redoing the video that's why you can't see it.

And referring to the grass/dirt separation, I could put in corner pieces to connect the grass more smoothly.

Ok, seeing the video playbutton now, but no images with firefox. An other issue, when I want to play the video, I got an access denied message due to https (which is disabled here).

I can see all images and the youtube video on this kickstarter page, thought I have the same issue with the first video (https access denied).

FYI. I use firefox (18.0.1) and I can see all content (video, text, images). Good luck with your kickstarter campaign.

The issue seems to be, that you use https instead of http, which is blocked for me. Just guessing, but I think that you copy your image/video links while being logged in amazon, therefor the https. Try to use the http adress instead.

Im using a Http address but when I upload the picture to kickstarter it turns the image url into https.

@O-san

Well I bought 3-4 days of advertising on reddit, and I'm sending a demo to a bunch of different indie game review websites to see if they will review it. I'm doing the same with youtubers aswell. If you have any suggestions I'm all ears.
