Legends of Strife

An early test version is now available at http://www.distantmelody.net/legends-of-strife/play.html.

I've written a client patcher that will only update what's necessary (so you will only need to download the whole game once). I am going to try and keep it online as much as possible and continue to patch in the progress as we make it. The game is in serious need of optimization so expect it to be laggy. Note that only the mage and necromancer classes has spells (right two class icons).

Feedback will be very much appreciated!

Quick afterthought. Dont equip worn leather boots (can be dropped by Grey Wolves). It will crash your client ^^

Works fine over here. The game takes far too long to load for the first time, though (something like 10 minutes for me). The art style is a bit amateurish (and extremely reminiscent of world of warcraft :p) but it looks good and there are no framerate problems. Maybe make the movement controls a bit less sensitive. And I didn't find too much to do in the world :/ I picked the default class (warrior, I think) assuming he would have a sword, but I didn't find it. I will try the mage next. Looks like a good start nonetheless!

Also, you have some z-fighting on the player's underwear.

Hi. thnx for the response. The starting location must still be set properly and the starting gear. But did you manage to loot any gear from creatures?

Edit: ive added some starting gear for all classes now and a starting location that isnt in the middle of nowhere ^^

I did not find any creatures. I found a village with a cemetery, a few trees, and a lone house next to a massive door, walked around for a while but I only found natural barriers. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place?

Ive found the reason it loads for 10 min. A small loop that runs for 0.02 sec on java 1.6 takes 10 min to complete on java 1.7. hmm. Granted it was written horrendously. Anyway I fixed that so the load time should be sane now (<30 sec on my pc) regardless of your java version.

As for finding no creatures. The server probely disconnected you for being idle while you were loading (10 min of idle dc's you and thats about how long it took to load ^^).

You can loot dead creatures with right click. Also the buttons on the bottom bar opens vaious interface windows (like character screen, inventory etc.). Also check back to your spells tab after you leveld up youl gain more spells (if youre a mage or necromancer). Also theres NPC's in the town giving out quests. Most of them are not fully functional yet though.

Let me know if it for some reason still takes 10 min to load.

Thnx for the feedback. it helps alot.

I don't know what you changed in this new version but the game is killing my graphics driver now, just after character selection (during loading screen). Hard lockup followed by TDR. That's under Windows, I'll try under Linux next time I boot in it, though I doubt the game will work with standard IcedTea. I'll check it out.

Well. Its just the armor system thats way to resource intensive. should be fine if youre not in the little town. Ive seen it die on a couple of other pc's if theres too many armored npc's or payers around. Its what im working on now. You can for now try and make a new character thats outside of town if you want to. Unfortenetley it wont run on linux at the moment.

No even with a new character, as soon as I click "enter world", the loading screen pops up and a couple seconds later my graphics driver dies. It may just be me, though.

Hangs on install on my work computer, unable to write crash.txt, I'll try again when i get home to see if it's a network issue(I work for a school with way to much redtape on the network for my liking)
