Why yes, I did totally flake out on Weekend Reading last week. I hit a milestone for a contract project on Friday and my brain just shut down early for the weekend. Then Sunday night I was like - hey did I ever post Weekend Reading?? Oops!

Project Updates

  • BGBTech: The Status Update - cr88192 has drafted out a new bytecode format, intended for his own BGBScript as well as C. He's considering whether to develop it further
  • Habitue Games Journal - HabitueGames has an update on his new project Demolition Dan with some interface screenshots and an overview of the gameplay
  • DMD 'Ware - polyfrag talks about his work balancing out the economy in Corporation-States, which is scheduled for release this month.
  • YodamanJer's Journal - YodamanJer has made some progress on his GameMaker project to warm up for his larger game project, shows off some images and video. He's now deciding whether to switch to 2.5D and Unity3D
  • RuinValor - Birth of Talos - riuthamus has a new video up showing the progress made on the Gorgane character model, and more recently shows off the visual improvements made to the landscaping thanks to dual contouring and new water shaders
  • Squared'D's Journal - Squared'D continues to make progress on his text-based game, starting work on the world map
  • Making a Terrain Generator - TheChubu talks about some problems that have been troubling him in getting his terrain generator working
  • Gamieon's Journal - Gamieon has hours 25-36 detailed for his personal 48-hour game jam project
  • Vaerydian - Net Gnome has two videos demonstrating improvements to Vaerydian - a tile based lighting system that also features tile shadowing and some new data-driven features
  • Lotus: Tales of the Lost Ones - Arthur Souza struggles with the demands of an indie developer while working on his project, started with friends but currently running with him shouldering most of the work after several years
  • OddGames development journal - O-san has a WIP image of a new NPC portrait
  • Wilhelm's Journal - Wilhelm van Huyssteen has a new release of Strife that turns you into a ghost when you die - you need to find a shrine to resurrect your character - along with a few other additions/improvements
  • evolutional.co.uk - evolutional restarts his component system after a review of other ECS implementations EntityX and Ash
  • Mark's Journal - mdwh has released an new version of his open-source RPG Erebus to the Play store

    Game Dev Stuffs

    • BGBTech: The Status Update - cr88192 has code on pastebin for a moderately micro-optimized JPEG encoder, with his goal being to speed up in-engine video encoding
    • Robot University -- a 2D DirectX Puzzle - puz has found some time away from professional game dev to make some minor improvements to his web-based maze generator
    • Squared'D's Journal - Squared'D gets refreshed on pointers and the new standards, sharing what's he's stumbled with for anyone else looking to grasp the basic concepts
    • Retro Grade - superman3275 goes over some basics of P and NP algorithms, is also working on his own Jarvis
    • Infinity Elephant Development Journal - Plethora discusses why you should be learning to deal with external libraries and APIs rather than just writing your own
    • Leadwerks Developer Blog - Josh Klint details the Greenlight campaign to get Leadwerks integrated with Steam
