Here are your Journal Land entries from the period of 8/30 - 9/7

One of our members started multiple journals. Not sure how I feel about that. Actually, I thought we had non-staff users restricted to a single journal, but with recent member group additions/changes some permissions may have been loosened or improperly set. Anyone else feel that having multiple journals would help you out? My opinion is that if you have multiple distinct topics to discuss in your journal, you should use the Categories system to make it easy for people to follow the topic they want. Discuss in the comments.

I just wanted to mention that I had already created a second journal months ago (granted I don't post as much these days). Admittedly, I just wanted to see if the system would let me create a new one, and it did, so.. I did. I see nobody noticed :p I had no other real motive to do so, and will gladly destroy it and move the offending entries to my original journal if needed.

Perhaps if the feature were named "developer blogs" or similar, people would be more inclined to stick to a single personal journal, but as it stands my opinion is that calling them journals encourages using more than one, as to me a journal comes closer to documenting a particular project, subject, or topic in particular, than being a repository of disjointed entries.

Also, I guess categories are useful but they don't have the same discoverability as a journal name. That is probably not an issue on Gamedev though, as most entries are - I imagine - discovered by finding them in the "recent journal entries" list, and I enjoy reading any and all entries when I have time.

My opinion is that it shouldn't matter how many journals someone has. Which journal someone uses is not as important as the fact that they produce the content and share it with everyone. You may not know how someone would design their content if they are able to use multiple journals, so maybe there could be something unique and interesting about how they do it. The point is, unless there is a really important need to restrict them then let them be available for people to express themselves according to their own wishes.

That is just my opinion, I would be happy to hear others!

By the way, I will stick to using a single journal even if the option for multiples are allowed. It should just be the developer's choice, instead of imposing an arbitrary limitation...

Very good point!

I'm new-ish here, but it seems like the journals are designed for the benefit of the authors and the readers. If readers don't like the way the author has organised their posts (categories, multiple journals or both), they can let the author know.

I have no objection to multiple journals. smile.png

Ben.

EDIT: Oh, and one journal per game will probably link up to the Indie Project pages better?
