Week of Awesome 3 - Day 2

Ahem. Well this is my first journal for the Week of Awesome 3. I guess I missed posting yesterday, but that's OK. I am doing to the audio for Team Ovensparrow. Not much to discuss, but here goes...

So far, I've composed 3 BGM (background music) files. We haven't finalized the game design as of yet (as far as I know); but I have been asked to make ambient music. I've never really done ambient music before, so it was a little difficult at first.

I did my best to spread the channels out so that the mixing won't sound terribly centered (though I can't increase the volume very much because I am in a library). I've decided to use FL Studio again. I don't know. I like it so far. For now, I am posting the music to my Week of Awesome 3 album on Bandcamp, actually titled WoA3. I'll upload the third song once it finishes rendering. I swear it's like waiting for Blender to render 3D models. It usually takes a while.

AND...that concludes my first entry. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for reading.

Thank you for posting. ^_^

To be honest, I'd wondered whether you had dropped out--I'm glad to find that thought mistaken. ^_^

As to the ambient music, it's of course difficult to say how fitting the pieces are without knowing the game for which they're intended. Nevertheless, I like them!

Perhaps it's just my somewhat-foggy state of mind, but the first puts me somewhat in mind of crystal-lined caves, before transitioning to something stranger--perhaps a city of some weird subterranean beings.

This is probably my sleepless state, but the third seems a little hypnotic, especially at the end...

Haha, I get that a lot. Thanks for the support!

I'm happy that you liked it overall. Thanks for the awesome feedback! This is definitely a new realm for me. The intro to the first one actually reminds me of slenderman. :p

Great work!

Thank you so much!

Slenderman--that I don't think that I'd have thought of! Listening again, I think that I can see the connection, however--a certain hollow attenuation, and that same sense of openness that may have suggested caves to me.

I've just noticed that there are more entries now!

I do like Nightmare: the beat is somewhat tense, and there's a slightly unsettling undercurrent that I think fits the title well. I could see it as a theme for a tense nightmare, or some similar situation. My only criticism (if I may give some, and noting that I am not a musician) is that after a certain point it picks up some notes that leave it feeling slightly lighter and less unsettling--but then, that may well be the intention.

Undead Alive is another good one: dark, slightly unsettling, yet energetic.

I'm not quite sure of what to make of Module, but I do like it.

You are quite keen for noticing! I updated this afternoon (further discussed in my Day 3 journal).

I definitely appreciate the feedback. You're right, it does become a lot less foreboding as it progresses. I'm honestly not sure what my intention was at the moment, as I was a little tired when I made that one!

Heh, I went back to listen for that connection to the Slender Man in the first part of "Terr Pattern", and discovered that there were three new pieces! (And that one that had been there was gone.)

That seems like a familiar experience to me--although in my case I think that it has tended to be odd (or just silly) mistakes that I'd made while tired.
