A lot has been going on with the game this month. Here is a quick video showing off what I was able to accomplish today. (the music is custom and created by one of my good friends Skyler).

This shows off something we were able to get in the game today. It is a particle based cloud system that has some pretty decent performance despite being a full blown model. Here some screenies of me playing around: (cloudsim 2016 baby)

And here is a screenshot of some other work I have been doing. Clouds are not the only models I have had to add to the game this week:

The turret is fully animated and runs off of the trusty gumdrops!! We also have some Third person shooter mechanics in, but that is for another video and another blog! Thanks for reading and enjoy!

I love the art direction you take, especially the trees look amazing. One thought, I could imagine, that the robot would benefit from some exaggeration and non-realistic materials :D

Thanks, yeah it is just a placer texture. Most of the assets will be hand painted with some PBR effects added. The robot has the default look for the color changing in the garage. You can change his parts colors, the decal, and the decal color. The white head/sash across the chest is part of the decal. It i a fairly robust system that allows for almost full customization of the character.

Hmm. The trees and clouds are adorable, though I also think the robot is currently a bit on the scary side and could benefit from some exaggeration - specifically as far as its shape, not its textures. Like, if the head were clearly an upside-down sand pail, or perhaps one of those metal kitchen bowls with loops on the side? And the hands and feet were also found objects like sand spades or at least were more chunky and with rounded corners? The forearms currently remind me quite a bit of rolling pins.

Certainly an interesting concept, but the robot race is suppose to be the serious aspect of the game. The gingerbreads/gumdrops are the playful side :P Bit of backstory would probably help put it into perspective. Also, this robot is the bare bones model. He is made as a "rail" system that you attach parts to. So, much bulkier and more pronounced objects will be fixed to his frame as you play the game.

Are you going to add SSS to the gum drops?

The Magic decal is the best!

Yeah, we actually already have that in, hard to see from that angle though.
