Project: Tracked Mind

Unreal Ninth Entry - 30 March, 2018

Mikael Henriksson

This is the ninth entry of my development blog for my project 'Tracked Mind'.

Since last time I bumped into two huge bugs while implementing new things to do the game, and those bugs would have ruined a lot of progress, but luckily I backed up the game right in time so it was easy to roll back from a previous backup. At first I thought I had to roll back to an earlier version of the project due to confusion about when I backed up the project last. Thankfully I didn't have to do that. The lesson I learned and that I would like to share is: It's really important to back up your project and doing it at the same time each week or even day helps!

I lost some progress with the level design but I was able to recreate some other things that I was working on. So right now I'm working on making some new environments that I can use for recording a video to show what the game looks like now and how the mechanics in the game works. I'm uploading a few screenshots this time, one that shows a new part of the inventory that gives the Player some information about the selected item. A longer description about picked up items will appear as a Journal entry.

I've been trying to experiment with indoors lighting, with different results. Let me know what you think based on the screenshots that I've uploaded :)

What's new?:

- A new detail window for all the items in the inventory.

- A new footstep system that is more accurate and independent from animations.

- New post process effects, some for making the game look better and some made to be used when the stress meter is full.

- New Journal entries for enemies and items.

Bug Fixes:

- Fixed a bug that prevented the Player to pick up items.

Take care!

My name's Greg Giddens, I'm a game developer, programmer, looking for some help creating art assets for the strategy management game I'm developing.
The game is called Schism and it's being developed in Unity. Schism is a strategy management game where the player manages a cult and their compound, building the compound to be self-sufficient, recruiting more members, and growing the cult's influence. Additionally, the player will also engaging in turn-based tactical missions to further their cult's agenda.
Currently the development team is two people strong: I'm programming and co-designing, and my creative partner Steve Peacock is writing and co-designing. We've been developing Schism since February and have the main systems in place. What's really holding us back at the moment is our lack of quality 2D art assets in the form of building sprites, character portraits and scenes, and UI art. However, for the time being we just want to create a short reveal trailer with 2D stills so we can launch a Kickstarter.
For the trailer we need 9 scenes of people performing particular actions (more details would be provided once collaboration is agreed) and a stylised version of our title, Schism.
Unfortunately we're not in a position to pay. We would, of course, pay if our Kickstarter was successful after the fact, however, I appreciate how much of a red flag that may raise with some of you, so please consider this to be a completely unpaid job.
If anyone is interested please leave a comment with a link to any samples.
      Many Thanks.

For this Screenshot Saturday we are enjoying the warm summer weather but we can guarantee it's not as hot as it is down in the caves on Tartarus. Luckily the suit our Alien is wearing can withstand very extreme temperatures.

The now extinct Parpuins built basic wooden and metallic structures and the oxygen deprived atmosphere in the underground on Metis has preserved some of them. If you are lucky you might discover a few of these while exploring.
