We’re not going to lie, we’re pretty excited about our latest release. It includes some important new features that we’ve been working really hard on for the last few months.

Since we first announced 8th Wall Web, Image Targets have been the #1 requested feature from our community.

We heard you loud and clear. But we didn’t want to roll out a new feature to you without it being perfect. So, we developed and tested…

and tested…

until we got it just right.

Introducing: Image Targets

Our latest update for 8th Wall Web allows AR experiences to now recognize and interact with 2D image files, bringing static content to life. Not only can your designated image target trigger an AR experience, but your content has the ability to track directly to it.

Simply log into your 8th Wall Web Developer dashboard and click the new Image Target button on the web app you would like to activate:

Then upload your images to the 8th Wall Cloud:

Here, you can edit, test and manage your image target library for each web AR experience you create.

Unlike other web-based image recognition technology, the image detection and tracking for 8th Wall Web is all performed directly on-device, in the mobile browser. This means better tracking performance and security for the user, as no camera data is sent up to the cloud. Secondly, image tracking can work in tandem with our SLAM engine, giving you the flexibility to design experiences that interact with image targets as well as the physical space around you.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Introducing: Embeds

Now you can embed an AR experience on any website. Just click on the 🔗 icon next to your web app, connect a URL, and then click on the Embed button. This will generate a preview of your customizable AR View button, along with the embed code:

These new features are all immediately available on your 8th Wall Web Developer account:

Embeds: Customizable HTML snippets for your webpage that route people directly to your web AR experience

Shortlinks: Provide you with 11-character URLs for your 8th Wall Web apps

8.Codes: Small, stylized QR codes that work directly in your mobile camera or barcode scanner

Now Supporting: Babylon.js

We’re thrilled to announce the latest web AR integration that we support: Babylon.js by Microsoft, giving you even more freedom to develop using the JavaScript framework you are most comfortable with.

Babylon.js is a simple and powerful JavaScript framework for building 3D games and experiences with HTML5, WebGL, WebVR and Web Audio. To get started with 8th Wall and Babylon.js, download a sample project from our public Github page.

In addition to Babylon.js, 8th Wall Web supports Amazon Sumerian, Three.js and A-Frame.

Is another integration you’d like to see 8th Wall support? Hit us up on our public Slack channel or tweet us @the8thwall.

🙌 A big thank you to our developer community for consistently providing us with helpful insights and critiques on our software. We’re continuing to develop and iterate based on the valuable feedback that you provide us.

Hello friends Well for a long time I wanted to create a game or mobile application because I have basic knowledge about programming but I have never had an idea in particular so I come to ask any creative mind to help you see this post to help me decide what to do. It's my first post so I do not know if there are rules for this and if there are any, let me know. Goodbye

      Hey guys!!
Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate the look and potential advice! As the title says I really want to make a dream come true by being able to create and put out a game for the phone or pc!
I've always had a love got games and i really got into them when i first started playing mmorpg on the PC. WoW was an inspiration and the many games that came after it. Ever since the beginning of my gaming life I've always thought  about " how cool would it be to create  a game for people to enjoy?". I've played many and everyone of themhad its ups, downs, uniqueness and similarities.
I have ideas and I think I am a good creative writer, but lack the skills on programming and art work ( I doubt a game of stick figures would go well for me) so I am looking for help on where to go, who would like to help and explore my brain and give me some advice. I am looking into coding because I would like to learn, but dont think that would be my role.
Any advice would be welcome! My dream is to have a successful mmmorpg mobile game or maybe even a PC game like WoW or so many other fantastic mmorpgs.
So I guess my question would be " where should I start?" I thinking learning code would be a good start even if i dont think it would be my role in a team.  Any suggestions would help
Thanks again for the read I hope to explore and learn more with you guys!

I've been working on HTML5 2D casual games (currently using pixi.js) for a few years, with some ending up both available from web pages and via web views embedded in third party apps.
This has been fine until this week, when a new requirement was added by one of the third parties (based on feedback from Apple, apparently) : The games can't be wrapped HTML5 games now.
I've been investigating tools and frameworks that would let me do this without having to write separate native versions for iOS. So far I've looked into:
Unity - seems the best toolset, if potentially overkill for 2D, but the mobile WebGL support seems lacking. Unreal - documentation suggests a similar issue to Unity with the support for mobile browsers Cocos2d - It doesn't look like the current version of cocos2d-x is Emscripten compatible, and while Creator looks good, it looks like it's probably outputting a wrapped WebView as the native build, based on the docs? SDL - looks like the best option for doing what I want, but looks much lower level, and would likely require a framework building on top of it? Are there any other tools/libraries I've missed that can output both mobile browser compatible WebGL and native iOS builds (and don't use WebView to render the game)? Or do I need to just bite the bullet and learn iOS native development in addition to the existing HTML5? It'd also be awesome if it had built in support for Spine animations, but at this point just something that actually fits the basic requirements would be a good start!

Hello, I am new to programming and this is my first attempt at a game. I'm using just pure Javascript, html, and css. I was trying to format it to fit on my Galaxy note 8 so the canvas is kinda wonky on different screens. I also cant find a way to get my 2 buttons I use as controllers to fill up on the bottom line. Other than that I'm not sure where to go next with my program, constructive criticism would be very much appreciated. Ill post the HTML file with my game(sorry I'm so inefficient in my code). Thank you for reading my post.
