Design Inventory . . . What inventory? (#management)

No more faff

Inventory management is always a chore, and it usually gets worse as the game progresses. For one thing, it always covers up a huge portion of the screen (if not all of it), and pulls you out of the action. Which can be troublesome, when you wish to grab something from the ground, in the middle of a dungeon. You can barely see where the enemy is coming from, and you can get easily confused, thus having to bother closing/reopening the inventory from time-to-time. But that shouldn't be the case, in fact your user experience with the interface should be more fluent and straightforward. It is something that shouldn't be treated as an afterthought. That is why I abolished most of the inventory from the screen, keeping only the player and a small callback section, to quickly find the things you're looking for. Other than that, it would have the option to auto sort/stack items or custom filter based on preset values. But what if you wish to browse them all? Well there would be a separate button for that, which would open up a whole new page, entirely dedicated to your inventory. Lots of space, which would be of course upgradable along your journey. Also, to limit the work of having to find out which gear is the best, the game would automatically show you, either based on the default settings, or by your personal taste.

      Hi, I have developed the  Slot game for Linux and Windows in Unity. Right now the game is in testing phase. The issue is when tester play the game continuously for 5 to 10 hours, Ram of the system increases drastically and sometimes the game is crashing.  So please give me the best way to solve the ram issue and crashing issue as well.
      I am using following system configuration :
      Ram :  8 GB
      Processor : Ryzen 3

      I'm a designer newbie looking to team up with other fellow newbies to create an Elder Scrolls inspired RPG called Ogera: Land of Shadows. Someone who can work with either 2D or 3D graphics and knows a program called Stencyl or Godot is a plus.
      Info for the game - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CoqyOfc8stg6XP-7nklOitiRg8wBRutSDy0ZeOboACQ/edit?usp=sharing

      Is it worthwhile to release a playable tech demo that is in a really early / rough state? By tech demo I mean that I just have a few core mechanics implemented at a basic level that gives me something I could call "playable" (using that term very loosely). for example, in my current top down 2D RPG alone the line of Zelda currently has:
      basic game loop (start menu with button -> button loads game -> you die -> start menu)
      2 world sections built with ability to transition between them
      basic player controller with movement and combat (melee and ranged support)
      enemy spawning with basic AI for wandering, following, and attacking a few different ways (melee, ranged, charge attack)
      inventory system with enemies able to drop randomized loot
      basic crafting system
      very basic animation for different states (as in rotating sprites and color animation to show different states)
      basic music and sound effects
      Some of what I hear is that releasing a tech demo too early really is not going to give any good feedback because there might not be enough to give feedback on but I heard other opinions where you should get people to play your game even if it is just cubes moving around (and even as I play test this, things are coming to mind a lot quicker than just trying to think of them).
      What are peoples opinion (and maybe more importantly experience) with releasing tech demos for public consumption when it is in a really rough and basic state?

      I want to implement a Tekken-Style Combo-/ Input-System.

      The basic system i want to realize is, processing a timed sequence of inputs. Example: In Tekken, I have 4 Input Buttons(excluding directional Buttons). Each of them corresponds to a basic Character Action.
      Square = Left Jab
      Triangle = Right Jab
      Circle = High Kick
      X = Low Kick
      When pressing one of those Buttons the Action executes. For a short period of time after that, the Character is in a state in which each of the Input Buttons (or only a subset of them, depending on the Character's move list) corresponds to a different Character Action. If I manage to press a Button in time the Combo and this Pattern continues until the end of the Combo. If i fail to push a Button in time, the Character returns to it's idle state.

      I had the idea of using a Tree to represent all Combos of a Character as a Datastructure.
      The buliding blocks are the following...

      1. Input(Type: enum): For example the square on a PS4 Controller.
      2. Action(Type: enum): A command that is send to the Character when an Input is given.
      3. Timing(Type: float or int): A time window for a specific Input of a ComboNode.
      4. ComboNode(Type: user defined): Several Inputs where each Input maps to a Triple.
      5. Triple (Type: user defined): An Action, a Timing and a set of ComboNodes(ChildComboNodes).

      How the Tree would update itself:
      1. Check for inputs in current ComboNode while at least one timing is still valid.
      2. Pressed Input.
      3. Send corresponding Action to Character.
      4. Set current to ChildComboNode.
      5. Repeat until Combo ends or no timings are valid. In those 2 cases, return to root.
      I would appreciate advice or comments :)
