I'd been browsing the lounge a day or two go and had read the ray tracing\casting thread. Ray casting didn't look too hard so I thought I'd rig up a small ray casted app - just textured walls and moving around. I have a fair ammount of it done. I used SDL so the initial gfx/input setup took about a half second. There are several serious bugs at the moment but I should be able to work them out. When I have it working I'll throw in some wolfenstein textures or something to polish it off.
Tomorrow I'll get to work on the GUI code for the engine. That'll be one of the more interesting aspects of the engine because I haven't coded a generic GUI system before. That will probably take me a few days.
Anyway, I'm going to try and get this ray casting finished off tonight if I can.
