There's now an article on the conference coverage page announcing the video availability, but I'll continue to post them here as well to get feedback in terms of how we can improve our coverage.

Feature

Next update: Kevin Hawkins, Dave Astle, Kelly Murdock. (Already got the video.)

Still to come: adventuredesign, Wavinator, frizzlefry.

Nice, nice... but dude, drag your ass down to a hardware store and invest in a decent tripod. Not that you aren't, just to say that the video's a bit on the shaky side.

Believe you me, I know...

I couldn't get a camera and supplies before the GDC, so I co-opted John Hattan's (I'd told everyone I'd need one before the conference, so he brought it basically for me). I promise we'll do better next time. We'll also have a better non-linear editing process set up for next time, scout's honor. (Even though I was never a scout...)

Aye. BTW, I prefer the interview style where we hear you asking the questions - the previous overlays broke the flow somewhat.

I guess next year we'll just have to make sure you've got a full video editing rig with you out there. Maybe I'll bring it. [smile]

Hmm...quite interesting. Good to see that there's people out there encouraging women into the industry.

Interview quality wasn't too bad, but could be improved :)

Thanks. If you read this (or if others read it), could you provide some specifics on what we could improve? I'm trying to use the first two days as test runs, so that the "main conference coverage" (Wednesday and Thursday) can be higher quality.

One thing in the interview with Girls In Games that I thought could've been improved was the external noise. At points it was difficult to hear the interviewees without turning the volume up, and some of the background noise was distracting. Not sure of the setup, and i'm sure you're on a tight schedule, but perhaps if you could get a room set aside to do interviews in away from the floor, that might be better?

Well, for "official" GDC interviews - those coordinated with the CMP press office, such as my IGF co-chair interview and upcoming GDC Conference Director interview - are held in press booths that eliminate most external sound. For this interview, however, we used the IGDA Lounge (which really isn't a lounge, but that's another story) because Michelle is a member. We were having a hard time finding somewhere to plug in and power up the camera.

I'll take that into consideration next time, though. Thanks!

Well...

As caffeineaddict said, the thing that bugged me the most was the background noise. I struggled to concentrate at the beginning; I did adapt to it eventually.

Other than getting a tripod as superpig stated, it was all good. I do like video interviews; you get so much more insight into people's personalities. I will point out that you did ask some very good questions to them which gave me a better understanding of their ideas/opinion of a 'womens role in the gaming industry'.
