It's a love/hate thing... they're useful in some cases, but they can increase the complexity of your code really fast. It's easy to get into situations in which you get all sorts of errors, especially some nasty linker errors.

And it's not the errors that are the problem, is the poor job that Visual Studio (and possibly other compilers) do at reporting them. They should get better as new versions of compilers come out, but in the meantime, they remain to be a pain.
