I just uploaded the new version of Stompy which uses datafiles. Can someone test to see that it worked (I'm not on my home computer right now)? It should have just the DLL, the EXE, and the DAT file.

DAT files are pretty good once you manage to learn them. One thing to remember is to never use the datafile directly for drawing sprites and so on. The reason I was able to change the code so quickly was because I simply changed the load_bitmap() lines to something like (BITMAP*)datafile[SOME_BMP].dat in order to load the bitmaps. The boot up speed for the program must be more than twice the speed it was before.

DAT files only work with Allegro programs. This is one of Allegro's greatest advantages, in my opinion.
