Here you can see the player's ship (blue tri) and a bunch of dumb enemies that shoot directly at it. A few semi-3d buildings loom in the background which eventually you'll have to avoid.
I'm still debating the whole 2d vs. 3d issue for this one. On the one hand doing proper 3d buildings and such to avoid looks great (especially when scrolling along) but on the other hand making good 3d models that look good is a real pain. Methinks I'll go for a half and half solution where I use generated 3d terrain and 2d sprites over the top.
