I've put together a team and we're working on our first title. My role on the project is producer. It's been a crazy week working on bringing everybody on board, getting a design in place, working on the project plan, and researching games in our genre. It's been fun though. I orignally put the project together so that we could learn to function as a unit and everyone would understand their roles. But after our first two meetings, getting some initial work finished, and researching top games in our genre, we feel that we have the talent to do better than those games. So I've decided that we're going to release the first project either through an existing publisher, or by publishing the game ourselves. This has opened a new can of worms for me. Now I'm working on the business plan, intellectual property rights issues, and trademarking and copyright issues. Fun stuff for sure.
I've decided to license an existing game engine on the market. It's very nice and has all of the features we'll need. It isn't too costly and we get direct support from the engine developer and free upgrades to future versions.
I can't talk too much about the game. I can say it will be in the value games indy market. It will be in a populated genre, but we believe there is room for us. The game will take us four months to develop. It will be targetted for the Windows operating system and aimed at casual or nastalgic gamers.
I'm very excited about this project and I look forward to revealing more here later.
