Buying a computer, a little at a time

Ok, I'm going to start saving money so that I can buy 2 computers. I'm going to buy a better desktop (something that isn't a celeron, maybe a 939 slot based computer) and a simple laptop. I need a laptop to be able to do my 2d programming on, so I don't need anything special (isometric is about as complex as I'm going to get for a while.)

Any recommendations?

Edit: Or do you think that I should stick with my current computer:
1.8GHz Celeron
512DDR333 ram, 512DDR400 (I need to fix this)
120GB hard drive
128MB ATI Radeon 9250 Xtasy series

I can talk a whole bunch about the subject, but what's your budget? Just throw out a number you're willing to spend on the two computers combined.

Edit: Whats a budget? (j/k) I'd be will to spend about $1000 on both (so about $2000 combined)

I guess I just like to spend money, since my current computer works perfectly, I just can't carry it with me (and work on it at the same time.)

1000 dollars will get you a screaming PC, and a pretty good laptop (if you know where to shop). 1000 dollars on each should be fine.
