Alright...

Right, sorry about not doing a third entry yesterday. I didn't get the work done that I intended to write about, but I'm sure you'll forgive me. I did finally get that work done though, but it comes with a "con". Before hand, I'd just like to say thank you Mushu for the card, I display it loud and proud, and don't stop hosting it anytime soon (I'll host it myself in the next week, then you're home clear). This entry should push me past the 3,000 mark, WHOO HOO! Oh, and Zefrieg, drop me a comment so I know you're still alive and reading.

So, the work I did today, accompanied by screenshots: Today I worked at the office, so I only had like 2-3 hours to code, unfortunately. I toiled the night away trying to incorperate way to make my guy scroll up and down as well as left and right. So I toilded with immencely unneccesarily complicated measures dealing with a few external variables and such stuff, and once again, a seemingly impossible problem yeilded a small solution. I just needed to change how everything in the game is drawn when the player reaches a certain height.

*at this point in the writing of this journal, Jack thinks of an solution to the problem mentioned later in this entry, and rushes off to see if it works, and... AAAHAHHHH! IT WORKS!*

Alright, before you fall asleep, here's a screenie of he same place from a higher and lower view... if you can't guess which is which, seek proffesional help... or Stompy (a programmer-art consultant if there ever was one...)




Alright, so my issue is I could only make it so that if you reach a certain point (lets say I set it at the top of the screen), then I could set another point to push it back to (like draw it just one page up). So it was kind of a failure, but it worked, and it's how I was going to do the office level anyway (even though it's how I wanted to do Church, Sewer, Subway Station, and park :/).

But then I was writing about it above, and I though... well, if I tweaked it just this way and that...

And bingo. I made it so that depending on each level, you can program it in so you could choose either of the two methods. SWEET! So anyhow, that's today's victory, tomorrow is a new day, and a... wait a second. I don't know what to work on tomorrow. Damn. I was saving level 3 for the weekend... maybe I can do it wednesday, but what about tomorrow... *thinks* :/

Count how many lines of code there are in my program so far? No idea, probably in the vacinity of 2000... hmmm. Oh, I'll get to work on programming the transition screens between levels. Sweet, this is awesome. More soon...

First off, no, I'm using Dev-C++, so Linecounter is not an option. I think I might have Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 on the new computer, but we'll see. As for rectangle fill, yes, it is awesome. I just can't wait till I get the real art in there. And third of all (for ilDave)... I'll just address all that in a comment on your journal. So write an entry!
