On a totally non-game-related subject...

Well, I got a post-card from the "Marine Corps Mobilization Command", namely the Inactive Ready Reserve...

A little history about the Military::

You sign up for EIGHT years on your contract. FOUR years Active Duty and FOUR years Inactive. During your 4 years inactive time, you can be called back in any moment(which I currently have about 2 1/2 years left)....

Sweeew... Gotcha thinking didn't I? Well, It had me thinking too, I didn't want to flip it over in fear that it was, "Come back to work, your going back oversees"...

It just said to update my information, thank GOD.

So, I tried to log into our special online dilly and I forgot my password, so I had to get it reset.

I finally got in and to my amazement, I had finally received some awards that were due for quite some time now. CAR & ICM

It seems to me that there is a new Campain Medal for service in Afghanistan (Didn't Serve there myself) and Iraq (Served, 2003). It hasn't hit the books, but it will soon...

It's crazy how long some of this takes. It's now 2005, September, and 2 years ago, I was -just- getting back from Iraq. Sheesh, and we are -STILL- there...

I had a student in one of my classes who was recalled after serving. It really pissed me off too. He was an older student but an AWESOME student. I found out he was going back to Iraq because he wanted to sit the final early so he could finish the course before leaving... imagine my jaw on the ground. "nah, nah. these exams are important, you'll just have to get a letter from the commander-in-chief stating that he'll supervise you taking the exam.." wtf.

The thing that really cut me up is that this guy is a hard-core pacifist but he's proud of his country and believes it's his responsibility to do his part. so he's a medic.

I have always thought that the war in Iraq was a bloody stupid idea, but I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who've put the service of their country before themselves.

That is just insane.

I've heard stories like that. Being -in- and watching from the inside, its just horrifically worse it seems like.

I was attending full time college + working (while I was in) and they were very close to sending me back again.
