Mark and I have made some good progress on the game lately, and I'm getting really excited to see how we do in the IGF as a student entry. The way its looking, we should have a completed game by November, which we're hoping will seperate us from the "demo made for my college class" crowd.
Anyways, Mark and I have decided that we need somemore variety in the gameplay of Angels 20, so we've added a few more mission types to the current roster:
-Destroy All Enemies(old)
-Destroy A Certain Area(old)
-Airborne Laser Support Mission
-Enemy Bomber Interception
-Enemy Supply Convoy Interdiction
-Attack Huge Enemy Unit (maybe)
I've programmed all of the ABL logic in the game, and I'm pretty happy with how it all works. Also, Mark drew a new 747 to replace my old one:
The mission type I am most looking forward to is the bomber interception. I programmed a Bomber class that is pretty much an ABL without the laser, and they will fly across the level at random altitudes, and you must destroy all of them before they reach the other side of the level. The bombers can already fly and be damaged, but there is no penalty if they make it across the level yet. Here's a screenshot of one of the bombers flying over an airbase with a landed bomber on it.
The convoy mission type has a convoy of cargo trucks that try and move from one side of the level to another. The convoy is guarded by flak vehicles, and stationary flak. You will have to destroy the convoy before it reaches the end of the level. I don't have any good screens for this yet, but I probably will tomorrow.
The 'Attack Huge Enemy' mission type is one we've been fiddling with that mmight have you trying to shoot down an enemy version of the ABL, or a similarly dangerous foe. We might not even include this in the final build, but we're thinking about it.
Another big thing we've been planning is the "Instant Action" mission option. This option would allow you to choose the mission type you want to fly, and then the game would pick a random enviroment type, and randomly create a level for you to play. Depending on how well this works, we might include a this option in our next update (but don't count on it[wink]).
Speaking of updates, Mark and I are aiming to release our next big update next Friday. We're trying to cram the following stuff into this update:
-New Missions utilizing new mission types
-New Camera System
-Expanded damage textures on most objects
-Random Mission generator(maybe)
-Better weapon to enemy collision detection
Well, I've got to go now, so I'll talk to you guys later.
