DirectX anyone?

After reading this thread in the Game Programming forum, specifically Promit's comments about many things that you'd have to "glue together" in OpenGL are already built into DirectX, I thought i'd give DirectX 9 a go since i'm not very far along on my project at all, and i've had a bit of experience with OpenGL before, so DirectX, here I come!

Since I also have a predilection for SDL, I found this article to be particularly interesting, as I loathe Win32 code, this takes the bulk of it out of the picture, so I should be able to judge DirectX better with that mess out of the way. Wish me luck!
