I'd like to talk to you about a little company called Electronic Arts. Electronic Arts is a company, back in the old days, that used to treat their developers very well and produced games at the forefront of both technology and innovation. However, during the late 90s when floppy disk prices became outrageously expensive, they gradually absorbed and killed off Origin, Bullfrog and Westwood.

Now, they have decided to trademark "System Shock" -- just as the news about Take2/Irrational's BioShock is starting to hit. Check it out:

Quote:
IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: Computer game cartridges; computer game discs; interactive multimedia computer game programs; downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; computer application software for mobile phones; computer game software and entertainment software for use on mobile and cellular phones, handheld computers, computers, video game consoles, both handheld and free standing, and other wireless devices

IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Providing a computer game that may be accessed network-wide by network users; providing an online computer game accessed and played via mobile and cellular phones and other wireless devices

I hope they are just covering their asses and not actually planning to produce a System Shock game for a cellular phone or game console. This would be seriously bad.

As the TTLG thread fears:

SS3 will be a third-person shooter for the Xbox 360. You will play SHODAN, a large-breasted, scantily-clad action heroine who packs as much attitude as she does ordnance.

There will be at least one snowboarding level.

So, yeah. This isn't good. Normally I'd be looking forward to installments in my favourite PC game series of all time, but now I just want it to die.
