So, being a moderator has some opportunities...

So, I took 40hrs or so off in an attempt to get a job - Thankfully no one seems to have misbehaved during my abscence. Which is nice.

But, Pieter informed me a few days ago that he wanted to announce something. It effectively demonstrates an interesting responsibility that us forum-specific moderators have.

Whilst the strict guidelines state that we're just to keep the peace (etc...) but it goes beyond that, and especially as an MVP, it's the perfect method to be promoting and leading the community. I am in the position of deciding to effectively promote material that is going to be of use, or interest, to the wider community.

I particularly like this aspect - there are plenty of other avenues (such as writing for GDNet) to be helpful, but the community as a whole does some amazing stuff and I feel it's important to make sure that everyone else knows what is available - and who's actually making a difference.

In other news, The Usual Suspects - I've seen it so many times, but it's still an absolutely amazing film. How can Brian Singer fit in so many great scenes and so many amazing lines into 1hr 42mins?

If you haven't seen it, I demand you do so. Go Watch It. Now.

You think a guy like that comes this close to getting caught, and sticks his head out?
After that... my guess is you'll never hear from him again.
Cop: I can put you in Queens on the night of the hijacking.
Hockney: Really? I live in Queens, did you put that together yourself, Einstein? Got a team of monkeys working around the clock on this?
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
A man can convince anyone he's somebody else, but never himself.
A rumor's not a rumor that doesn't die.

If you rated films out of 5 stars, imho 'The Usual Suspects' would get 6 out of 5 [wink]

I entirely agree about trying to highlight the work and efforts of various members - as HW moderator I tend to give sticky status to projects that look particularly interesting or promising, it seems to be a good way to just draw some attention to those projects that look like they're going somewhere interesting.

I don't spend much time in HW, but I had noticed you've got a pretty tidy system going there [smile]

I'm mostly following on from what Muhammad was doing before - so I can't really claim any credit for doing anything original [lol]

Another cult classic is Boondock Saints, you'll love that one.
I just checked it out and the basic plot outline sounds familiar to me. I don't think I've seen it, but i've definitely heard of it.

Will add it to my list!
