The icons are perfect. They impart no information whatsoever.

They are nicely drawn. It must have taken a while to make those. In my opinion, the text describing the buttons is good enough. Do people look at these menu icons really when they want to get back to playing the game anyway? I guess it would depend on the type of game.

Yay radical menu systems! This project is looking pretty kick ass.

I love radial menus. Absolutely love them. Ever play NWN?

Also, are there sub radial menus (NWN style)? More like MI3?

Another good implementation was The Sims.

The menu icons look pretty good to me, and seem to fit in well with the rest of the art I've seen.

One thing I'm not sure about is how keyboard shortcuts will work (if you are using Neverwinter Nights style), because it's hard to map keys to the pentagonal form in that screenshot. You could rotate the icons like in Secret of Mana though, so only the top icon counts.

Or if you wanted to use mouse gestures, a pie-chart like appearance might suggest the functionality a bit more clearly (similar to that doubloon used in Monkey Island 3). This would show that you only need to move the mouse a little bit in the correct direction for it to have an effect.
