vector - float, gamasutra

Looking at this artickle (trycing to make my ships bounce): http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20020118/vandenhuevel_02.htm ... i found something that I have never seen before, look at this formula: Vector v1'' = v1 - optimizedP * circle2.mass * n; where optimizedP is: float optimizedP = (2.0 * (a1 - a2)) / (circle1.mass + circle2.mass); what the hell is a vector minus a float? how do I add that to my vector class please explain someone zilch_
