Should sprites be a collection of multiple images based on one object (like a person''s walking animation) or should each sprite hold just one images and just use an array of sprites for animation?

Why not load all of your images in a central collection (an array, a manager, etc), and have your sprite class contain pointers to the images it uses in the array. Not only does it help keep the size of your sprite class down, it also let''s you do things like ''clone'' your sprite without having to keep multiple copies of the same image data in memory.
