Direct3D... Where to start?

Ok, I understand now enough direct3d to make a small 2d textured quad engine to make 2d games with and I could add in stuff like alpha blending and stuff later when I understand that a little bit more. Should I make the 2d engine and learn more that way or should I continue learning 3d stuff and learn that way? I want to know if its worth it making a 2d game in direct3d like if performance is better etc.

Seriously though, there''s no formula, but some concepts are easier to understand in 2D Versus 3D. Your question has no real answer. You figure out what''s easier and then do the opposite. Thats how some learn best...
