Just started to look at using separate streams in D3D8. Since there is only one index source, if I have a closed mesh do I need to duplicate the vertex positions for every triangle that shares a vertex if the texture coordinates are different in each case (as they obviously will be) ? In other words, is it not possible to index the same vertex position but with multiple different texture coords, in one DrawPrim call? That would be crap if its the case. Cheers Cameron

Unfortunately, that is the case. However, indexing multiple vertices that define different attributes at the same position is still better than reproducing each vertex in each triangle over the whole mesh. You can devise a mesh file format that will allow you to keep separate indices for each stream, so that when you do animations on it, each vertex is only transformed once (ie, doing weighted bone transform in software) and can then be put into hardware streams that are correctly indexed.
