unresolved external symbol _Direct3DCreate8@4

I got this error after I had write after one of the examples from the book game programing all in one, Compiling... main.cpp Linking... main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _Direct3DCreate8@4 Debug/blue window.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals Error executing link.exe. blue window.exe - 2 error(s), 0 warning(s) What should I do to make it work and what is wrong??? I am using Visual c++ 6.0 and DirectX8.1 SDK please help me!! Mullvad

Did you include the d3d8.lib in your project?

In vc++:
Choose Project->Settings.
Under the link tab just write
d3d8.lib in the "Object/Library modules" field.

With DirectX, you need to link the library files. d3d8.lib is just one of the many. You should get in a habit of including d3d8.lib, d3dx8.lib, dxguid.lib, and winmm.lib. Those four I use more than any other library files. Of course there''s dinput and dsound too. The DirectX SDK tells what files need to be linked for each function. Anyways, keep in mind that it''s usually a link error when you get the unresolved extrernal errors.
