My Own Map Editor?

Make it with the same tools you used for making your engine. You can even some of the same functions from your game for the level builder(model loading, rendering, etc). I cant understand what would be difficult about this.
Also, you should make functions to compile the raw level data into efficient rendering data.

Easier said than done... there are lots of articles geared to creating engines and very few geared towards how to make a map editor... see my post in the DirectX section if you want my extremely detailed opinion on the subject.... I think someone should write a book on the topic considering what a huge part of games levels/maps are. Okay so you can create an editor using your existing engine but to me thats kind of similar to saying you can make a game using DirectX.... sure you can, but it''s nice to have a rough guide as to what things you should be implementing to make the kind of maps you want to make and so on.
