could someone wise help a stupid gimp user!? i''d like to add an alpha layer to my png texture, but the gimp''s driving me crazy. i can create an alpha layer by selecting "layers->add alpha channel" and then extract it by selecting "image->mode->decompose (alpha)", but that''s it. i get a separate grayscale image, but how on earth i return it after editing it a bit back to the original image''s alpha layer/channel/whatever it is????? gimp is really driving me nuts.

I don''t think you need to select "add alpha cahannel"
Just create new RGB image, then add transparent layer and remove the background layer. There you have image with alpha channel. That''s how I remember I did it
Then just save it as TGA or similar alpha format.
