Right now I''m using 34 frames per second but I have no animations yet. How low can I go if I want to have bitmap animation?

I think most humans differentiate frames up to about 30. So stay about 30 and you''ll be good. You''d probably be able to get away with something in the 20''s, but go with 30. Actually I''d recommend not locking the frame rate, but that''s another topic.

Indeed... if I was you I''d implement a timer and frame skipping.

for example:
An animation runs at x fps, say 10(easy number ). Therefor the frame updates every 100 milliseconds, if less than 100 milliseconds has passed since the animation was last rendered continue rendering the same frame otherwise update to the next frame. Similarly if 200 milliseconds has passed, skip the next frame and render the one after that. This way the animation will appear smoother on better systems, but it will still be on the same frame at the same time on a lesser system.

You probably already considered this, but just my 2c
