Zeraan

Check out the game I'm working on.

Recommended Posts

It is at this. Controls: Up - Thrust Left - Rotate counterclockwise Right - Rotate clockwise Space - shoots Esc - returns to main menu The behemoth art isn't there. I'm still trying to think of a good one for it. Crusier needs a new art because it looks too girly if you know what I mean. I need to draw the title name again. I have a bug with shooting, so don't worry about that (if you return to main menu and start a new game, it clears all the shots/ship). After I'm done with those things, I will add asteroids. What do you think of my first Directx game since so far? Think I can sell it after I'm done with it? There will be much more features than just asteroids, for example, buying upgrades for your ship. I need the money badly Constructive comments/flames welcome, dumb comments not welcome Edit: Fixed the link. Edit: Added anonymonizer so you can link (might not work).

This doesn't look bad but now I can't do any more than flying trough "free" space and shoot at no target... and I think that U possibli have some strange physics thing in it: your implementation of strong engine, and weak engine , in my eyes, are the same expect the maximum speed(their acceleration is (almost)same).I mean that Strong Engine can accelerate faster than weak engine, not only better max speed.

Pretty Nice Game. Might want to try and make the Starfield in the background a little more life-like but so far you got a working game, which is alot more than I can say for myself, hehe. Good Game, keep workin on it though man, I dont know if you could sell this game but I would like to see it have all those upgrades u say you''re going to put in.

game works fine for me.
Glubo:
While valid your point is, having a more "accurate" physics model which allows a stronger engine to accelerate faster than a weaker engine may be more true to life however I think it would detract from the gameplay.
Being able to accelerate faster doesn''t give you the same advantage over enemies as being able to reach a higher maximum speed.
I''m currenlty wroking on a 3d space shooter and am currently trying to decide whether a stronger engine should mean faster acceleration or a higher top speed.
Having a higher top speed is more benificial to player''s and is easier to grasp in terms of whats going on (especially in a 3d environment).
As an aside I''d be interested in other people''s commentes on the issue. I tend to feel that having higher max speed would be better for gameplay but thats just my humbe opinion.

Otherwise nice progress so far - I especially like the user interface.

Thanks
Toby

Personally, I''d have the acceleration depend on the mass of the ship itself (a less massive ship can accelerate faster - basic physics) and have the engine adjust the top speed.

Just a suggestion

Doesn''t work with me either. My display is really garbled and I get this blob going across the screen. AFter trying to move the cursor a little i got an error message stating it has problems moving the blit. I have a Radeon 8500.

Seems like Tornado and Ryanrk is having problems, they both have Radeon 8500... I have Geforce 4. I''ll try to find the problem and fix it.

I''ll fix the acceleration/max speed later, right now I''m focusing on the bugs/artwork.

Thanks for your feedback! I''ll fix that link now.

tobymurray: Ok I know that the maximum speed is more powerful in gameplay but the acceleration is IMHO powerfull too. I think that the most physics right solution is that the max speed depends on ships''s engine power and ship''s friction with space and the ship''s acceleration depends on ship''s mass and engine power. This is almostr real model but in game it''s not funny that ships can accelerate to REALY high speeds, so I think that it''s good to let max speed depends in some way on engine power and let acceleration depends on both ship''s mass and it''s engine''s power. I don''t say let space ships in games reaches REALY high speeds but I say let the acceleration of them depends on their engine''s power and mass, also let their max speeds depend on their engine''s power.
(I''m sorry for my bad English)
