Im working on a tile-based 3D game, kinda move you guy around push stuff out of the ways, sorta game. Im just starting so Im making one or two of the tiles so I have something to work with while I program. Im using Rhino3D, which does NURBS then converts them to polys. Im asking because the program is pretty bad at doing this efficiently. How many polygons can a modest computer handle on screen at once before it gets slow. Suppose the level is 30x20, with some scrolling so its not all on the screen at once. On average what should I go for as far as the number of polygons per tile? Heh.. among other things the main character is a sphere.. so that should probly take a decent bit. I wanna make him look good. Thanks for any responses...
